Four Militants Killed in Intelligence-Based Operation in Pakistan’s Bannu, Security Sources Say

Peshawar (Terror Monitor) — Pakistani security forces have killed four militants during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu district of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, security sources said on Saturday, as counterterrorism operations continue in the region.
According to security sources, the operation was conducted as part of ongoing military actions against the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) under the government's Azm-e-Istehkam counterterrorism initiative.
The sources said four militants were killed during the operation and a large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from their possession.
Following the operation, security forces launched a clearance operation in the surrounding area to locate and eliminate any other militants who might be hiding there.
The sources said the search operation was continuing and further details could emerge as security forces made progress in clearing the area.
No information was immediately available about the identities of those killed, the precise location of the operation or whether security personnel sustained any casualties.
The security sources described the operation as part of broader efforts to dismantle militant networks operating in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and prevent further attacks against security forces and civilians.
Militant Violence Continues to Rise in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The operation comes amid a broader increase in militant violence across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations against armed groups.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), Pakistan recorded 225 militant attacks in September 2026, the highest monthly figure in 12 years. The attacks killed 259 people and injured 242 others.
The Associated Press (AP) has also reported a series of deadly attacks against Pakistani security installations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In September, a coordinated assault on a police compound in Kohat killed 21 people and wounded more than 100 others, according to Pakistani authorities.
The banned TTP has been responsible for numerous attacks against Pakistani security forces and law enforcement agencies, particularly in the country's northwestern regions.
Pakistan's government has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban authorities of allowing militant groups, including the TTP, to operate from Afghan territory. Kabul has rejected allegations that it provides safe havens to militants targeting Pakistan.
The latest operation in Bannu highlights the continuing security challenges facing authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as military and law enforcement agencies pursue operations against militant networks.
