Peshawar (Terror Monitor) — Unidentified armed militants have abducted four people, including a police constable and a Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, after establishing a road blockade and intercepting a vehicle in the Bettani subdivision of Lakki Marwat district in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to local sources.
The incident took place on Hussain Khel-Ghundi Road, where the armed men reportedly set up a checkpoint, stopped a vehicle and forcibly took away all four occupants to an undisclosed location.
According to police and government sources, the abducted individuals have been identified as police constable Shaban, Frontier Corps personnel Naseem and driver Rehman Gul. The identity of the fourth abductee has not yet been established.
Following the abduction, reports of intense gunfire emerged from the surrounding area, raising concerns about a possible escalation in the security situation.
Local sources said members of the Bettani tribe had mobilised in large numbers following the incident. Tribal residents reportedly established blockades at several locations and along different routes in an effort to restrict the movement of the armed militants and prevent their escape.
The situation has reportedly remained tense, with residents expressing serious concern over the presence and activities of armed groups in the area.
However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the circumstances surrounding the abduction, the whereabouts of the four individuals or any operation launched to secure their release.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
Growing security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The latest incident comes amid continuing security challenges in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted law enforcement personnel, security forces and civilians.
The Associated Press (AP), in a report published on November 3, reported that suspected militants killed two police officers and wounded another in an attack in Mohmand district while the officers were travelling to provide security for a polio vaccination team. The attackers escaped, and no group immediately claimed responsibility.
Separately, Pakistan's Dawn newspaper reported on November 5 that two suspected terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed in an exchange of fire with police in Lakki Marwat. A third suspect reportedly escaped after being wounded.
The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) also reported that police recovered weapons, ammunition and other suspicious items from the vehicle involved in that encounter.
The latest abduction has further heightened concerns over the security situation in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in areas where armed groups have demonstrated their ability to establish roadblocks and intercept vehicles.
