Pakistan: Kharan Deputy Commissioner and Three Others Abducted in Balochistan

QUETTA (Terror Monitor) — Kharan Deputy Commissioner Munir Somro has allegedly been abducted by unidentified armed men in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, a senior government official confirmed on Sunday night.

The official said Somro was traveling from Quetta to Kharan in a private vehicle with three other people, including a personal security guard, when they were intercepted after entering Kharan district. All four were reportedly taken to an undisclosed location.

Earlier, two senior government officials had confirmed that Somro had gone missing but stopped short of confirming an abduction. They said he was traveling toward Kharan and lost contact after crossing Nushki district and entering the Kharan area.

Officials said repeated attempts were made to contact Somro and the others by mobile phone after communication was lost, but their phones remained switched off.

Following the incident, government and security agencies launched efforts to locate Somro and the three other missing people and secure their safe recovery.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the reported abduction.

Kharan is located around 300 kilometers southwest of Quetta and has experienced prolonged unrest and militant activity. Government authorities have repeatedly said that security measures are being taken to improve law and order in the area.

The reported abduction comes amid continued attacks and kidnappings targeting government officials in Balochistan.

In recent years, several government officials and academics have been targeted in the province. Earlier this year, the vice chancellor, pro-vice chancellor and a lecturer at the University of Turbat were reported abducted.

In 2025, Surab Additional Deputy Commissioner Hidayatullah Buleedi was killed in an attack. An assistant commissioner in Kech’s Tump area and the assistant commissioner of Ziarat were also abducted that year. A deputy superintendent of police in Nushki was abducted and later killed.

In 2024, Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Zakir Baloch was killed in an attack by unidentified armed men.

Authorities have not provided further details about the circumstances of Somro’s disappearance or identified any suspects. The investigation and search operation remain underway.
