JEDDAH (Terror Monitor) — Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with the head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper, in Jeddah on Monday, with the two discussing the latest developments in the region, according to Saudi state media.
The meeting came amid rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen.
Several days earlier, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that the Saudi Crown Prince had asked U.S. President Donald Trump for military assistance in the fight against the Houthis.
According to the sources, Trump did not authorize direct U.S. strikes against the Houthis. However, Washington assured Riyadh that it would provide intelligence-sharing support and assistance in identifying potential targets.
The Houthis have intensified attacks in recent days targeting Saudi cities and energy infrastructure. The group has also been advancing along Yemen’s Red Sea coast toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a strategically important international maritime passage.
The renewed escalation has opened another potential front in the broader regional conflict, raising concerns over the security of Saudi Arabia’s oil exports as well as the safety of global maritime trade.
