Syria: Bomb Blast Hits Minibus in Damascus Suburb, Killing 4 and Injuring 13

DAMASCUS (Terror Monitor) — At least four people were killed and 13 others injured when a bomb planted inside a passenger minibus exploded Thursday in the Damascus suburb of Jaramana, according to the Associated Press.

Syrian state television, citing an unnamed security official, said preliminary findings indicated the explosion was caused by an explosive device planted inside the minibus. The blast occurred in Jaramana, a predominantly Druze suburb on the southeastern outskirts of the Syrian capital.

Syria's Health Ministry, however, reported a lower casualty toll, saying two people were killed and at least 13 others wounded, while an Associated Press journalist at the scene witnessed rescue workers pulling one of the bodies from the wreckage, with AP reporting that the death toll had reached at least four.

Video footage from the scene showed the charred remains of the white passenger minibus being towed away as emergency responders and security personnel secured the area.

Eyewitness Samer Abbas, who was inside his clothing store just metres from the blast, said the explosion produced a "powerful, unnatural sound." Shrapnel struck the front of his shop.

“My first thought was my son, who had been sitting outside,” Abbas told Reuters. “My blood froze until I found him safe and heard his voice.”

At Damascus' Mujtahid Hospital, Bassel Imad said his cousin, Safouh, had been driving the minibus and was among those injured.

“What happened was very wicked,” Imad said, describing the street where the explosion occurred as a narrow commercial area lined with shops and street vendors.

The bombing comes amid continued tensions involving Syria's Druze community and the country's Islamist-led authorities. A United Nations investigation released earlier this year found that more than 1,700 people, most of them Druze civilians, were killed during violence in Sweida province in July 2025. The report said Syrian government forces, tribal fighters and Druze armed groups may have committed war crimes during the clashes.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the bombing. No individual or group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
