EU Sanctions Iranian Judges Over Cases Involving Religious Minorities

Brussels (Terror Monitor) — The European Union has imposed sanctions on six Iranian individuals accused of being involved in “serious human rights violations.”
According to the Council of the European Union, five of the six individuals are Iranian judges who have been involved in cases involving religious minorities.
The Council said it has also sanctioned Iranian computer engineer and hacker Nima Salehi, who is accused of being the founder and a key member of the cyber group “Ashiyaneh.” The EU said the group cooperates closely with Iran’s FATA police and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and has been linked to widespread cyberattacks against critics and reformists inside Iran, as well as foreign entities.
Following the latest decision, the number of Iranian individuals under EU human rights sanctions has risen to 269, while 53 entities have also been listed. The sanctions include asset freezes, travel bans within EU member states, and a prohibition on providing financial resources to sanctioned individuals and entities.
