Houthi Attack Damages Italian Air Force Eurofighter in Saudi Arabia, Officials Say

RIYADH (Terror Monitor) — Italy’s Ministry of Defence said Friday that an Italian Air Force fighter jet was severely damaged during air attacks on a military base in Saudi Arabia.

According to the ministry, the Eurofighter F-2000 was parked in a remote section of a military base in the Saudi city of Taif when the attack occurred. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Italy’s defence minister said no other vehicles or facilities used by Italian personnel were damaged.

The attacks, which also affected another military base and an oil facility, have been attributed to Yemen’s Houthi militia, which controls large areas of the country.

The Saudi Air Force has been conducting air operations against Houthi targets in Yemen in support of Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

Last week, the Iran-backed Houthis claimed to have established control over Yemen’s entire Red Sea coastline following a rapid military advance. Italy is also participating in various international missions in the region.

Saudi Arabia has faced continued attacks since fighting resumed several weeks ago between the Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi-supported government forces in Yemen.

The Houthis have announced a “naval blockade” targeting Saudi-linked shipping and have claimed to have attacked several vessels or forced them to alter their routes.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is seeking additional military support from the United States to counter Houthi attacks.

The developments come as Pakistan’s military spokesman said Islamabad would go to “any extent” to defend its ally, Saudi Arabia. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told Arab News on Thursday that Pakistan would support Saudi Arabia “both diplomatically and practically.”
