Iraq Establishes New Command to Secure Border with Saudi Arabia

Baghdad (Terror Monitor) — The Iraqi government has established a new command to oversee the country’s western borders, particularly the border with Saudi Arabia, with the aim of preventing any attacks against neighboring countries.
Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Yahya Rasool told the Kurdish website Rudaw on August 22 that a new operations command had been established and moved on its first day to an area near the Saudi border, where it will be deployed.
“The purpose of deploying this command is to ensure the protection of the country’s southern and western borders and prevent any attempt to target neighboring states,” Rasool said.
According to the Iraqi government, the Badia Operations Command was established on August 10 to strengthen security in the desert areas of Muthanna province.
Rasool said the command’s headquarters would be located in Naqrat al-Salman, in Muthanna province.
Naqrat al-Salman is located in the middle of the Samawah desert and falls under the jurisdiction of Salman district in Muthanna province. The area is approximately 80 kilometers from the Saudi border.
