ISLAMABAD (Terror Monitor) — Pakistani security forces killed 37 terrorists affiliated with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in operations across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said Monday.
According to the ministry, coordinated intelligence-based operations were launched following recent terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces conducted operations in Kohat, Hangu and Tall.
The ministry said airstrikes were carried out against hideouts and safe havens of terrorist groups responsible for the attacks. During intelligence-based operations in Kohat and Hangu on September 20, nine terrorists affiliated with the TTP were killed and several others were wounded, it said.
The ministry said terrorist camps and hideouts in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region were also targeted. Three targets were destroyed, including a facility used to train suicide bombers.
According to the ministry, 28 terrorists, including several suicide bombers, were killed in the strikes. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition stored at the targeted camps and hideouts were also destroyed.
The Ministry of Information said Pakistan has consistently sought to maintain peace and stability in the region and that the safety and security of civilians remain its top priority. It alleged that Afghanistan continues to serve as a hub for terrorism and said the threat of terrorism facing Pakistan originates from Afghanistan.
The ministry said maximum precautionary measures were taken during the operations to prevent collateral damage. It added that the counterterrorism campaign “Ghazab-ul-Haq” would continue at full pace to eliminate terrorism allegedly carried out with foreign support and assistance.
Pakistan officially uses the term “Khawarij” when referring to members of the outlawed TTP.
