Pakistan: Suicide Bomber Killed in Peshawar Operation

PESHAWAR (Terror Monitor) — A suicide bomber was killed and a police officer was also killed while three others were wounded during a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) operation in Peshawar, while two polio workers have gone missing in a separate incident in Dera Ismail Khan district, officials said.

The CTD launched an operation in the Garhi Sherdad area of Warsak Road after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. Officials said the operation began at around 2 p.m., triggering an exchange of fire between CTD personnel and the terrorists.

According to the CTD, police officer Afaq was killed and three other personnel were wounded during the gunbattle.

The department said an Afghan suicide bomber identified as Sangri attempted to escape by reaching the rooftop of a building. Security personnel cordoned off the area and used a drone for surveillance during the operation.

The CTD said the terrorist opened fire on the personnel and was subsequently killed in the exchange of fire.

Authorities had received information that three suicide bombers were planning to target a sensitive installation in Peshawar. One terrorist was killed during the operation, while several others managed to escape, according to police.

A search operation is underway to trace the fleeing terrorists, while investigators have also launched efforts to identify and apprehend the alleged facilitators of the dead terrorist.

Police sources said the family of a suspected facilitator was taken for questioning from his residence as part of the investigation.

Two Polio Workers Missing in Dera Ismail Khan

Meanwhile, two members of a polio vaccination team went missing while returning from duty in Kot Dolat area of Kulachi tehsil in Dera Ismail Khan district.

Police identified the missing workers as polio team officer Mubashir Hassan and vaccination supervisor Jumma Khan. Both are residents of Hathala Union Council.

Dera Ismail Khan District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed said contact with the two workers had been lost since the previous day.

A report was filed at a police station by Mubashir Hassan’s brother, Sakhi Jan, who expressed concern that the two men may have been abducted by armed terrorists.

Police have launched an investigation and search operation to locate the missing workers. Authorities are examining different aspects of the incident and making efforts to establish contact with the two men and determine their whereabouts.

Officials said the exact circumstances surrounding their disappearance remain unclear, and no further information about their location has been confirmed.
