Washington, D.C./Iran (Terror Monitor) — The United States has carried out military strikes against multiple locations in southern Iran near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, targeting areas including the port of Jask, Qeshm Island and the coastal city of Bandar Abbas, according to reports from Iranian media and US journalists.
Multiple explosions were heard across the affected areas following the attacks, with residents reporting blasts in several locations along Iran's southern coastline.
Iran's official news agency IRNA reported explosions on Qeshm Island, while other Iranian media outlets also reported blasts in Bandar Abbas and areas near the Strait of Hormuz.
The attacks reportedly targeted locations in Hormozgan province, including military-related facilities and installations near the country's southern coastline.
The US strikes mark a further escalation in the ongoing military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical international shipping route.
US military action confirmed
US journalists, citing American officials, have reported that American forces carried out strikes against Iranian targets on Qeshm Island and other locations near the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump also acknowledged American military action against Iranian installations, describing one of the operations as a limited strike against an Iranian air defence system.
American media reports said the strikes were intended to neutralise military threats to US forces and assets operating in the region.
Iran claims missile attacks against US warships
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched anti-ship ballistic missiles towards American naval warships following the reported US attacks on the port area of Jask.
Iranian military sources also claimed that their forces had intercepted and destroyed American drones over the southern coastal region.
There was no independent confirmation that any US naval vessel had been struck or damaged.
Strategic importance of the targeted locations
Jask, Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas are strategically important locations along Iran's southern coastline.
Qeshm Island lies close to the Strait of Hormuz, while Bandar Abbas hosts one of Iran's principal commercial ports and important naval facilities. Jask is also significant because of its location east of the strait and its role in Iran's maritime infrastructure.
The latest US attacks and Iranian military claims have heightened concerns about a broader confrontation in the Gulf region, with the security of international shipping and energy supplies increasingly at risk.
