Pakistan: Three Policemen Killed in Tank Attack; Four TTP Militants Reportedly Killed in DI Khan

PESHAWAR (Terror Monitor) — Three policemen were killed and two people wounded in separate security-related incidents and operations in the volatile districts of Tank, Dera Ismail Khan and Lakki Marwat in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to local and security sources.

Security forces also reportedly killed four militants affiliated with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Dera Ismail Khan, while police and members of a local committee carried out an operation against suspected militant hideouts in Lakki Marwat.

Three Policemen Killed in Tank Attack

In Tank district, unidentified motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire on a traffic police van in the Wazirabad area, killing three policemen and wounding two other people.

Local sources identified the deceased as Constable Gul Ameen Khan, driver Fayyazuddin and Saleem Shah, also known as Qureshi. Two people, Qaiser Mohammad and Zafar Hussain, were wounded in the attack. One of the wounded was reportedly a mentally disturbed man, according to local sources.

The attack took place while traffic police personnel were carrying out their official duties, sources said. The attackers fled the scene on motorcycles after opening fire.

Police rushed to the area after receiving information about the attack and cordoned off the site. The bodies of the slain policemen and the wounded were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Tank, where the injured received medical treatment.

Police launched a search operation to trace the attackers and monitor possible escape routes. Officials said investigations were underway from different angles to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack.

Four TTP Militants Reportedly Killed in Dera Ismail Khan

In neighboring Dera Ismail Khan district, security forces reportedly killed four militants affiliated with the TTP during an intelligence-based operation.

Security sources said the operation was conducted under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam counterterrorism framework after security forces monitored the movement of suspected militants based on intelligence information.

Four militants were killed during the operation, the sources said.

According to the sources, a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and Afghan currency was recovered from the militants following the operation.

Security was subsequently tightened in the area, while forces continued search operations for any other militants who might be present in the vicinity.

Security officials said intelligence-based operations would continue as part of efforts to counter terrorism and maintain security in the country.

Suspected Militant Hideouts Targeted in Lakki Marwat

Meanwhile, police and members of a local committee in Lakki Marwat carried out an operation against suspected militant hideouts following recent attacks targeting civilians in the district.

Local authorities said several shelters and structures allegedly used by armed men for accommodation, movement and planning attacks were set on fire and subsequently demolished.

Sources said the action followed a series of recent attacks in which several people were killed. Police and members of the local committee jointly targeted the suspected hideouts.

Officials said cooperation between local residents and security agencies was important for maintaining law and order and identifying suspicious activities at an early stage.

Police and other law-enforcement agencies have continued monitoring suspected individuals and possible militant hideouts in Lakki Marwat amid heightened security concerns, with further operations expected in the area.

The incidents come amid continued security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s southern districts, where law-enforcement and security agencies have been conducting intelligence-based operations against suspected militant networks.
