Pakistan, U.S. Agree to Strengthen Counterterrorism Cooperation Against TTP, ISIS-K and BLA

WASHINGTON (Shabbir Turi) — Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding counterterrorism cooperation, addressing evolving security threats, and strengthening their partnership to promote regional peace and stability.

According to Pakistan's Foreign Office, the fourth round of the Pakistan-U.S. Counterterrorism Dialogue was held in Washington on August 4, 2026.

The U.S. delegation was led by Ambassador Gregory LoGerfo, the State Department's Coordinator for Counterterrorism, while Pakistan's delegation was headed by Ambassador Nabeel Munir, Special Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement posted on X, Pakistan's Foreign Office said the two sides held detailed discussions on current security challenges, enhancing counterterrorism cooperation, strengthening border security, and disrupting the movement of terrorists and their support networks.

The joint statement reaffirmed both countries' commitment to continued cooperation against terrorist organizations that threaten their citizens and regional stability. It specifically identified ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), al-Qaeda, the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), and affiliated groups.

The two governments also agreed to enhance intelligence sharing, information exchange, and joint counterterrorism efforts to strengthen the security of both nations.

Pakistan and the United States reaffirmed that their ongoing counterterrorism partnership remains a key pillar of their shared vision for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.
