Two Ballistic Missiles Launched from Yemen Destroyed Before Reaching Yanbu: Greek Military

Athens (Terror Monitor) — Greek security sources told Reuters that a Greek-operated air defense system deployed in Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched from Yemen on Saturday before they could reach oil refineries in Yanbu.

Hours earlier, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense announced that a potential attack threat in the Yanbu region had been neutralized.

The warning came as Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced that they would respond to Saudi-led coalition airstrikes targeting their positions in Hodeidah.

Greece has deployed U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems in Saudi Arabia since 2021 under an agreement, with Greek military personnel operating the systems. The deployment aims to protect Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure.

Saturday’s interception marked the second time Greek personnel have used the system to stop incoming missiles.
