Beirut (Terror Monitor) — Two people were killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon on Friday, according to Lebanese state media, despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported that the strike took place near the strategically important Ali al-Taher hill. Israel’s military claims to have taken control of the area, although Hezbollah has not confirmed that it has lost the position.
According to the Lebanese news agency, two young men were riding a motorcycle in the Nabatieh area when they were targeted. Rescue workers transported their bodies to a local hospital.
Israel announced on Thursday that its forces had taken control of the hill. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the military would continue operations in the area “to prevent the enemy from re-establishing a presence” there.
Exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah have continued since March. Lebanon says more than 4,300 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes and ground operations.
The intensity of the clashes decreased after the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding in June and Israel and Lebanon reached a framework agreement. However, Beirut continues to report Israeli attacks in Lebanon.
