The U.S. military has announced the launch of a new phase of strikes against Iran.
In a statement, the U.S. military said it has also resumed a blockade of vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas.
According to the U.S. military, more than 20 fighter jets and hundreds of aircraft are currently operating across the Middle East.
Earlier, explosions were reported in the Iranian cities of Bandar Abbas, Kish Island, and Qeshm.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement on the social media platform X that American forces had begun an additional phase of operations against Iran.
CENTCOM said the strikes aim to further weaken Iran’s military capabilities used to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The command added that the operations come as U.S. forces prepare to reimpose a naval blockade against Iranian ports and coastal areas. The blockade is scheduled to take effect at 4 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time.
