US Sanctions 27 Iranian Airlines and Other Entities

Washington, D۔C. (Terror Monitor) — The US Treasury Department on Tuesday imposed sanctions on 27 Iranian airlines and several other entities, in what Washington described as part of its broader effort to further isolate Iran’s economy from the international financial system.

The sanctions come as Iran and its allied groups continue to carry out attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for global energy shipments.

The latest measures, imposed under the US campaign known as “Operation Economic Outcast,” target Iranian airlines that had not previously been subjected to US sanctions.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the administration had promised that individuals and entities providing financial support to the Iranian government would face serious consequences.

“Under Operation Economic Outcast, we promised that those providing financial support to the Iranian regime would face serious consequences,” Bessent said.

He added that the latest sanctions target companies that continue to support Mahan Air, one of Iran’s major private airlines, which has previously been sanctioned by the United States.

US officials say the new measures are intended to restrict the Iranian government’s access to financial resources and target companies that facilitate the commercial activities of Iranian airlines.

Mahan Air has faced multiple rounds of US sanctions in the past, with Washington accusing the airline of supporting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and facilitating the movement of personnel and equipment linked to Iran’s military and regional activities.

The latest sanctions represent another step in the US campaign to increase economic pressure on Tehran and limit the ability of Iranian entities to conduct international business.
