Yemen Fighting Intensifies, 674 Killed and Nearly 3,000 Injured

Washington, D.C. (Terror Monitor) — Fighting in several parts of Yemen has intensified in recent weeks, with at least 674 people killed and 2,998 injured since the latest escalation began, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The WHO said that 164 people were killed and 516 injured between September 13 and 18 alone, highlighting the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation.
The renewed violence has placed further pressure on Yemen’s already fragile healthcare system. The WHO said only around 60 percent of health facilities assessed across the country are fully operational, while many others are functioning only partially and have limited capacity to treat trauma cases.
Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said escalating insecurity has displaced 129,438 people across seven Yemeni governorates.
IOM Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Othman Belbeisi, said the number of displaced people increased by 11,352 between September 18 and 21 alone, reflecting the rapid pace of displacement as fighting spreads.
The governorates of Taiz and Lahj have been among the areas most severely affected, with large numbers of families forced to flee their homes amid intensified clashes and deteriorating security conditions.
The latest escalation has also complicated humanitarian operations. Access to conflict-affected areas has become increasingly difficult because of insecurity, damaged infrastructure and restrictions on movement, leaving displaced families in urgent need of shelter, food, healthcare and other basic assistance.
The renewed fighting comes as Yemen continues to face one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. Millions of Yemenis remain dependent on humanitarian assistance, while years of conflict have severely damaged the country’s health system and infrastructure.
International agencies have warned that continued fighting could trigger further mass displacement and place additional pressure on communities that are already hosting large numbers of internally displaced people.
The latest figures from the WHO and IOM underscore the rapidly worsening humanitarian consequences of the renewed violence, with hundreds killed or injured and more than 129,000 people displaced in a matter of weeks.
