Drone Strike Outside Sudan Court Kills 12, RSF Blamed

Khartoum (Terror Monitor) — A drone strike outside a courthouse in the Sudanese city of Umm Rawaba on Tuesday killed 12 people, according to a medical source who told AFP that the attack was being blamed on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The attack was part of a recent escalation in drone strikes carried out by both sides during the war between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which has been raging since April 2023.

Witnesses said the drone struck an area outside the courthouse where local residents had gathered to deal with legal and administrative matters.

“I was near the courthouse when I saw the drone hit a tree outside the building. There were many people there at the time,” one witness said.

Another witness said local residents rushed to help the wounded immediately after the explosion.

“We tried to rescue the victims, but some people died at the scene. The explosion was extremely loud,” the witness said.

Umm Rawaba is located along a major highway connecting central and western Sudan and remains under the control of the Sudanese army despite repeated attacks in surrounding areas.

The RSF has not immediately commented on the incident.

The war between Sudan’s army and the RSF has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis. Aid agencies estimate that more than 200,000 people have been killed, while millions have been displaced from their homes.

The United Nations and humanitarian organizations have described the conflict as one of the world’s worst displacement and food crises, with millions of people facing severe shortages of food and humanitarian assistance.
