Gaza: Three Killed in Israeli Strikes as Israel Says Senior Hamas Leader Captured

Gaza City (Terror Monitor) — Palestinian medical sources said at least three people were killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza, as both sides reported an Israeli ground operation aimed at capturing or targeting a senior Hamas leader.
Witnesses said approximately a dozen airstrikes hit western areas of Gaza City on Tuesday morning. Gaza’s Civil Defense agency said two children and a woman were among those killed.
The agency, which operates under the Hamas-run administration, said eight other people were also wounded in the strikes. Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City confirmed receiving three bodies and treating several wounded people.
Speaking to reporters near the Gaza border with Israel, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that “a senior Hamas terrorist has been captured.” He did not identify the individual or provide further details.
“We do not wait for threats; we pursue Hamas terrorists, defeat them and destroy their terrorist infrastructure,” Katz said.
Katz claimed that since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack, Israeli military operations have destroyed and brought under Israeli control approximately 70 percent of the Gaza Strip. He said the areas under Israeli control had “no residents, no tunnels and no homes.”
However, security sources in Gaza offered a different account.
A source told AFP that an Israeli mission targeting a senior Hamas leader had failed and that Israeli special forces withdrew on motorcycles under Israeli air and military cover.
The Israeli military, meanwhile, said it had struck multiple targets across the Gaza Strip to “eliminate threats to security forces.” It did not provide the precise locations of the strikes or additional details.
The Israeli military said none of its personnel were harmed during the operation.
Although a U.S.-backed ceasefire took effect in October 2025, violence has continued in Gaza. Israel continues to target Palestinians whom it identifies as militants.
