Houthi Prison Turned to Rubble: 23 Killed in Saudi-Led Airstrike in Yemen

Sanaa (Terror Monitor) — The search for people trapped beneath the rubble of a Houthi-run prison destroyed in an airstrike earlier this week continued on Wednesday in Yemen’s northern Jawf province, as the Saudi-led military coalition resumed airstrikes on areas controlled by the rebels.

According to Houthi authorities, rescue workers recovered four more bodies from the rubble, bringing the death toll from the prison strike to 23. Rescue operations are still underway, and officials fear that more people may remain trapped beneath the debris.

The prison was destroyed on Monday when the Saudi-led coalition targeted the strategic city of Al Hazm in northern Jawf province. In response, the Houthis launched a wave of missiles and drones toward southern Saudi Arabia, injuring 73 people.

The latest clashes mark a major escalation in tensions between Saudi Arabia, a key U.S. ally, and the Iran-backed Houthi militia. Analysts say the conflict has already contributed to regional instability, while the effects of the recent Iran-U.S. war have also had negative repercussions for regional and global economies.

Hassan Saboula, director of the civil defense agency in Jawf, said a child was among those killed, while rescue teams were continuing to search for seven people who remained missing. The Houthi-run Al-Masirah satellite channel reported that the identification of the victims had not yet been completed.

Anis al-Asbahi, spokesperson for the Houthi-controlled Health Ministry, said at least seven people were also injured in the strike, including a woman who had gone to the prison to visit her husband. The injured were transferred to nearby medical facilities, while rescue and relief operations continued in the affected area.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes on Houthi military installations in Marib and Jawf provinces on Wednesday morning.
