Washington, D۔C۔ (Terror Monitor) — The US Central Command (CENTCOM) says US forces have destroyed five Iranian crude-oil tankers following two ballistic-missile attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against a US Navy warship over a two-day period.
According to CENTCOM, the US military operation was carried out after the IRGC targeted an American naval warship with ballistic missiles on two separate occasions.
CENTCOM said the US warship successfully defeated the Iranian attacks and that no US personnel were injured.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Iran would lose its oil tankers if it continued attempting to target American warships.
“If Iran tries to target our warships, it will pay a price,” Rubio said, warning that Tehran could lose additional oil tankers as a consequence.
Iran Claims Missile Strike on US Base in Jordan
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that it had launched a ballistic-missile attack against the Al-Azraq US military base in Jordan in response to the American strikes on Iranian oil tankers.
Iranian state media reported that the IRGC targeted the US facility in Al-Azraq with ballistic missiles, describing the attack as retaliation for the destruction of Iranian oil tankers by US forces.
The IRGC said the strike was carried out specifically in response to the US attacks on Iranian oil tankers.
Jordanian authorities did not immediately confirm that the Al-Azraq base had been hit.
However, the Jordanian military said Iran had launched 20 missiles toward the country. It said 18 missiles were intercepted, while two landed outside populated areas.
No immediate information was provided about casualties or damage from the reported missile launches.
Escalating US-Iran Confrontation
The exchange marks another escalation in the confrontation between the United States and Iran, with military operations increasingly extending beyond Iranian territory and into regional waters and US military facilities.
CENTCOM had earlier announced that US forces destroyed five Iranian crude-oil tankers, saying the action followed repeated Iranian missile attacks on an American warship.
The developments have raised further concerns over the security of commercial shipping and energy supplies in the region, particularly as tensions continue around Iranian oil exports and key maritime routes.
