Jerusalem (Terror Monitor) — The Israeli military said on Wednesday, July 29, that its recent airstrike on a mosque in the Gaza Strip targeted a site allegedly being used by Hamas as a weapons storage facility.
According to reports from Gaza City, images released by AFP showed the Al-Muttaqin Mosque engulfed in flames after Tuesday's strike, with thick smoke rising above the area.
The mosque is located near a camp where many Palestinian families displaced by the war are living in temporary tents.
AFP images also showed local residents searching through the rubble in an effort to find and rescue injured people following the strike.
In a statement, the Israeli military said it had destroyed multiple Hamas weapons depots across central and northern Gaza over the past week.
The military added that one of those alleged weapons storage sites was located inside a mosque in northern Gaza, which was subsequently targeted. Israel also said civilians in the area were warned before the strike.
