JERUSALEM (Terror Monitor) —The Israeli military said on Sunday that one of its officers was killed during fighting in southern Lebanon, just two days after Israel and Lebanon signed an agreement aimed at ending hostilities.
According to the military, 21-year-old Captain David Hazot, a platoon commander, was killed during combat operations in southern Lebanon.
A military official said Hazot was killed after Israeli troops entered a suspected building in the Deir Siryan area and encountered a Hezbollah militant. Another Israeli soldier was wounded in the exchange.
The official added that Israeli forces launched a search operation for the militant following the incident and carried out strikes on targets in the surrounding area.
Lebanon's state news agency reported that Israeli forces later struck the outskirts of the southern Lebanese towns of Deir Siryan and Taybeh.
According to official Israeli figures, 38 Israeli soldiers and one civilian contractor have been killed since fighting between Israel and Hezbollah began in early March.
