Rubio warns Iran: peace impossible amid continued proxy attacks in Iraq

Abu Dhabi (Terror Monitor) U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that lasting peace in the region cannot be achieved as long as Iran-backed groups in Iraq continue missile and drone attacks and remain involved in what he described as terrorism.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi, Rubio said these issues would be discussed in ongoing and future negotiations with Iran.
He further stated that if Iran’s leadership chooses to transform itself from what he called an “revolutionary movement that spreads terrorism” into a normal state, it could gain significant economic development and opportunities, though this would depend on progress in resolving security concerns.
Rubio also emphasized that no country can be allowed to impose tolls or fees on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it an international waterway governed by international law.
The U.S. secretary of state is currently on a Gulf tour that includes visits to Kuwait and Bahrain, where he is expected to discuss a potential agreement with Iran and broader regional security issues.
