Yemen: Houthis Threaten Retaliation After Alleged Strike on Sanaa Airport

SANAA (Terror Monitor) — Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who control Yemen's capital Sanaa and much of the country's north, have accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport and vowed to retaliate.
In a statement issued Monday, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree described the alleged strikes as "blatant aggression," saying they had undermined long-running efforts to reduce tensions in Yemen. He warned that Saudi Arabia would "face the consequences" and that the alleged attack "would not go unanswered."
Saudi Arabia's government media office did not immediately respond to the Houthi allegations.
Meanwhile, Yemen's internationally recognized government claimed that its armed forces targeted the runway at Sanaa International Airport in an effort to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing there.
According to a spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, the aircraft later landed safely at Hodeidah Airport, which remains under Houthi control.
The latest developments have raised concerns over a renewed escalation in Yemen's long-running conflict. The competing claims made by the Houthis and the Yemeni government could not be independently verified.
The internationally recognized Yemeni government, which operates from the southern port city of Aden and is backed politically and militarily by Saudi Arabia and several Gulf states, said its actions were intended to prevent military assistance from reaching the Houthis. The Houthi movement, however, condemned the reported strikes as an act of aggression and threatened retaliatory action.
Yemen has been embroiled in civil war for more than a decade. In 2014, the Iran-backed Houthi movement seized control of the capital, Sanaa, forcing the internationally recognized government to relocate to the country's south.
The conflict has triggered one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Despite intermittent ceasefires and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, fighting and mutual accusations between the rival sides have continued.
The latest incident has heightened fears that the conflict could intensify further, with potential consequences for regional peace and stability.
